About this Wine
Hunter Valley, NSW
Medium scarlet purple
A perfumed nose of ripe dark berry fruits, Violets & 5 spice
The lead up to 2016 was superb, beautiful cool and dry conditions through veraison providing excellent clean and healthy fruit and canopies. The wettest January since 1972 followed, testing winemakers patience, with picking pushed back to see this period out. After this a dry February allowed the land to lose the moisture and grapes ripen and vintage to be back on track. Picking was 1-2 weeks behind average with lower than normal crops and a lot of hand picking to mitigate any risks of disease
Medium bodied and structural with good depth of fruit tannins and spice
Handpicked and cold soaked for 5 days before fermentation with natural yeast (~25% whole bunch) After 10 days on skins, pressed to French oak Puncheons (25% new) to undergo malolactic fermentation. A 10 month maturation period before blending and bottling
Drinking well now or will reward long term cellaring.
