The word 'Paddock' was often used by legendary winemaker Maurice O'Shea when naming his Hunter Valley vineyards and wines. It is also from the high paddocks throughout the region that some of its best plantings can be found. This High Paddock Shiraz uses fruit from younger vines on Mount Pleasant Estate that are sheltered from the winds and sun by the Brokenback ranges and produce a slightly different spectrum of red fruits.

Professional Reviews

91 points - Ned Goodwin MW

2022 Halliday Wine Companion

"This is archetypal, medium-bodied shiraz, with a firm district imprint. Aromas of fecund wet earth, sassafras, calf’s leather, lilac, thyme and lavender, with red- and blue-fruit allusions a go-go. The mouthfeel is ideal, offering versatility and accessible everyday drinking. The sole caveat: the overtly tangy acidity."

90 points - Mike Bennie

The Wine Front

"Warm spice of cinnamon and clove draped over raspberry fruit, dried rose petals, rum n raisin characters. Solid, blocky, bold red. Concentrated and quite dry. Too dry? Dry. A little lemony tang through the finish too. Will go well for some."

The Real Review

"Very deep purple/red colour, dark for this producer, and the bouquet is driven by black fruits and it smells and tastes very ripe and sunny, oak taking a back-seat. Subtle spice, very plummy; straightforward. A big, ripe, bold Aussie shiraz more than a regional Hunter wine. And very promising."
