View member price

The planting of these Shiraz vines in 1946 by Maurice O'Shea demonstrates his thorough understanding of the Hunter Valley landscape. The Rosehill vineyard is home to a unique soil structure, allowing for a medium bodied, floral style of Shiraz, providing a contrast to the more robust Shiraz grown on Old Hill and Old Paddock. Elegant and restrained, the 1946 Vines consistently produce stunning Hunter Valley Shiraz.

The Real Review

"Reserved, subtle nose. The bouquet is backward and savoury and still a little undeveloped, with a little meatiness. The palate is concentrated and very dense, with masses of tannin and some chewiness. Some tarry notes throughout. A big, rugged wine, with old-vine fleshy density and great concentration, but it doesn't lack elegance. Very long-lasting palate flavour. This is most impressive, and I could forsee it still going strong in 40 years' time."

Wine Front

"Floral, aniseed, spicy, red and blue fruits, medium-bodied, so fine and evenly weighted, great tannin, incredible length. Precision, tension, charm, verity and purpose. Once in a lifetime."
