Lovedale Semillon 2007

Lovedale Semillon 2007

Member price $72.00

The late Maurice O'Shea planted the Lovedale vineyard in 1946 with incredible foresight, recognising that the unique structure of the land and the surrounding environment would deliver the tightness and acidity for world-class Semillon. This wine provides exceptional drinking now or can be carefully cellared for up to fifteen years from vintage.

Growing Conditions

The Hunter Valley had a relatively dry winter for the beginning of the growing season with an unseasonably warm and dry August in 2006 and veraison early occurring in late December. The weather in early January was hot and dry which meant harvest started early on 15 January. The hot and dry conditions continued all the way through harvest providing excellent fruit with rich and powerful concentration.

Intense and refined lemon and lime with complex mineral notes a persistent mouth watering acidity gives a generous after taste which pleasantly lingers

The handpicked fruit was brought to the winery in excellent condition retaining freshness and quality. The grapes were destemmed and crushed, and only the highest quality free run juice was cold fermented with special yeast for a period of three weeks. After fermentation the wines was stored cold on gross lees for a short period of time after which it was blended, filtered and bottled.

Festooned with Gold medals, the wine is undoudtedly superb, coming as it does from a good vintage and a very great vineyard. The interesting part is the CO 2 prickle that underwrites the longer term future of an already beautiful lemon and mineral- accened wine. To 2022

Wine Front

Due for release in the next couple of weeks, here’s the first published note of the ‘modern era’. Already sporting a fine degree of complexity, the 07 Lovedale offers a mix of lime, subtle floral and aniseed top notes along with some bottle aged honey and toasted nuts. It’s juicy and flavoursome, well rounded, with a core of gentle, yet controlling, acidity and a compellingly long and tasty finish – flavours of lime marmalade on toast are offset by a flinty cut of drying acidity. Clear and composed and already moving into ‘The Zone’ where Hunter Semillon becomes something other than just another low alcohol dry white. Enjoy over the next decade, though no kittens will die should you choose to drink it young - it’s terrific right now.
