Fresh dark red fruits with lovely spice and unique violets which can only come from this great vineyard.
An excellent year in the Hunter Valley. Dry throughout the growing season, the vineyards burst early but a cool spring slowed the growth periods, meaning ripening was around 2-3 weeks later than usual. December saw warm weather with average rainfall allowing for healthy and clean canopies giving excellent ripening conditions. January and February saw significantly lower than average rainfall conditions which meant ripening was even and let the team have the ability to pick fruit at its optimum ripeness.
Intense and structural, classically medium bodied with lovely acidity and devastating length.
Purchased in 1945 and planted by Maurice O’Shea in 1946, the Creek block as it is called, produces an amazing and unique perspective of Shiraz. Planted from cuttings taken from the Old Hill on the Mount Pleasant Estate, the intense floral aromatics are a signature of this Rosehill vineyard. The fruit was carefully hand picked and a portion was destemmed to open top fermenters while another parcel had around 20% whole bunch included. Cold soaked and fermented for 9 days, the fruit was pressed to large format French oak at around 20% new. Blended and bottled after around 13 months in oak.
Will reward cellaring for up to 50 years.

It saw 20% whole bunches and 20% new (large format) French oak, but mostly it saw the Rosehill Vineyard. This is floral, fruity and sweet in part; peppery, earthen and savoury in other. It's the full box and dice. Delicate, stern, plump and direct; it leads you here and there in persuasive fashion, beguiling all the while. Succulent is the word; it's a wine you feel yourself wanting to devour its every nuance.

"I’m coming back to taste these wines (1946, 1965, 1921) after they’ve been open for three days, and this one looks the freshest. Consensus at TWF seemed to be that the 1965 Rosehill was the top wine of the single block series from 2014, while my vote this year goes to the 1880 Old Hill, with this 1946 Rosehill up near it. Though, let’s face it, they’re all bloody good.
Red fruit, gentle earthiness and spice, was kind of grunty and firm when it was first open, and now it’s almost silky with succulent raspberry and lovely floral mouth-perfume, the tannin still thick and strong, but well buried and making its play on the long finish. There’s a beautiful evenness to this wine, it flows and charms, even though it’s a pretty muscular unit. Wonderful expression of site".
