Ever wondered how Hunter Valley wines match up to those from the rest of the world?
We’ve always believed in the quality of the wines from our region and we set out to find the answer to this question at a recent Mount Pleasant event that compared the wines of the Hunter Valley with those from the rest of the world, held as part of the Hunter Valley Food and Wine Month.
The first step was finding wines from the world that closely matched with Hunter Valley varieties, or else the comparison could never be fair.
Wine Educator Michael Quirk took everybody through the basics in the Show Judging process, to make sure that everybody had an idea of what they were looking for in the comparison.
Then we put the power in to the hands of the guests, asking each attendee to come to a conclusion on who was the winner on a wine by wine basis. Guests looked at each wine individually, then completed a direct comparison of the Hunter wine with it’s international counterpart to determine a winner.
The day was a huge success and everybody attending had a great time confirming what we already knew, that the wines of the Hunter Valley and Mount Pleasant are equal or better to the wines of any other country in the world.
From a results perspective, the Hunter Valley wine won in every single comparison.
Below is the full list of the wines that were tasted. The wines which were tasted together are grouped and the winner is in capital letters.
