Paul Harvey

Vineyard Manager

As Vineyard Manager for Mount Pleasant, Paul is responsible for managing the winery’s 110ha of vineyards in the Hunter Valley. It is a role which he relishes, providing the opportunity to work with vines dating back to 1880.

Paul was first introduced to the world of wine during high school where he undertook a course in viticulture. After leaving school, he completed a Certificate II in Wine Operations (Viticulture) from TAFE before embarking on a Bachelor of Applied Science (Viticulture) from Charles Sturt University which he gained in 2004. He is currently in his second year of study for a Masters in Wine Business from the University of Adelaide.

In 1999, he began working at the Cumbandry Vineyards in Gulgong in New South Wales holding various roles including Vineyard Operator and Technical Supervisor. In 2006, Paul was appointed Assistant Vineyard Manager for Foster’s Mudgee Vineyards, responsible for the daily and weekly work programmes covering 570ha of vines over three sites.

Paul joined Mount Pleasant in 2010.

It is Maurice O’Shea’s story and Mount Pleasant’s historical significance which really inspires Paul, “On the tough, rainy days during harvest, you remember that Maurice worked in relative isolation and without electricity. It provides both immense perspective and inspiration.”

It is also a role, which having estate vineyards and a winery, brings him close to the journey from harvest, to the winery to the end product.

Paul extends his work into his spare time and likes to test his palate through wine tastings. He is also an avid New South Wales Waratahs supporter.
