Mount Pleasant Hunter Valley - Lovedale Semillon

Mount Pleasant is pleased to announce that the 2007 Mount Pleasant Lovedale Semillon has won the regional trophy for Best Australian Single- Varietal White over £15 at the Decanter World Wine Awards 2014.

The Decanter World Wine Awards is one of the largest and most influential wine competitions in the world, judged by thirty six international and regional wine experts.

Chief Winemaker Jim Chatto says that the award is a remarkable result for Mount Pleasant and another confirmation of the status of Lovedale as one of the most highly regarded Australian wines.

“It is great to see the 2007 Mount Pleasant Lovedale awarded a regional trophy by Decanter. The Lovedale Vineyard is a unique and iconic Hunter Valley site and the winemaking philosophy of Mount Pleasant always tries to do this great vineyard justice.

This award again recognises the significance of this vineyard and the wines that come from it in the story of Australian wine and the Hunter Valley region. “

The Lovedale field was planted by the celebrated winemaker and Mount Pleasant founder Maurice O’Shea in 1946, after he noted the suitable structure of the land and the free draining, alluvial soils.

68 years later, the incredible foresight shown by Maurice O’Shea still reaps rewards, producing one of the most iconic white wines in the country.

The judges noted that the 2007 Mount Pleasant Lovedale is a wine that is pure and still youthful with lovely smoked flavours of sherbet and lemon. It showed manuka honey, mandarin, toast and wax cut through with lime zest, combining to give a developing nose on this restrained bottle-aged beauty.
